Ali wanted to make this a destination space rather than a standard utilitarian bathroom.
It needed to feel bigger, gain surface area and be inspired by a trip to India.
Storage was an issue to address as well as heating.
The Style Counsel employed combination tactics to make this room feel bigger. A top half wall of mirror made the biggest change by making the room optically wider. Custom built cabinetry painted in a seamless continuation of the wall colour added to the sense of space and a free standing bath appears more airy.
Surface space was maximised by building a narrow surface across the basin wall using the off cuts of the travertine floor, unifying the design.
We introduced a formica shower wall printed with a photograph by Ali's photographer husband, taken on their India trip, which holds particular resonance to this room design. The travertine chevron floor design and the curtain print are both taken from the photo.
Underfloor heating takes the edge off a cold winter floor.

This was a long narrow dark space with an old beamed ceiling, which was two low for a shower.
My brief was to create a warm deconstructed bathroom that gave the feeling of bathing outside, but with the privacy and protection of bathing inside.
The key to making it work was opening up the original small window at the end to become French doors and then turning the bath at an angle to the French doors, so that it gave the feeling of meeting the garden outside rather than being lined up against the wall.
The bath has the beautiful glow of copper, but is acrylic inside, which makes it far more practical and comfortable.
The wallpaper has 3 coats of varnish making it waterproof, mould proof and fungus proof.
I upcycled the vanity unit from an old Ikea unit, creating a painted copper finish for the top and treating the rest with paint and crackle glaze. The unit houses towels; cleaning materials; spare loo roll; and toiletries in the drawer.
The towel rail is heated, the mirror has a light behind it that can be changed from warm to cool and the wall lights are dimmable for added atmosphere.

The bathroom was 2 rooms when we moved in, with the toilet in a separate room and an extra sink in the spare bedroom. So we knocked down the wall and moved the door to create one large family bathroom. This allowed for a wider than standard bathtub, perfect for relaxing evening baths, for bathing little ones and more elbow room in the shower.

Installing this downstairs loo in an unused part of the understairs was the first major project we’ve ever done - and was inspired heavily by the toilets of our favourite Manchester pizza restaurant. The aim of this space was to surprise people when they opened the unassuming hallway door, and to make it a really joyful and playful space. We really wanted it to be a wow moment for this that use it - and I think we achieved that!
In an ode to the pizza restaurant it’s inspired by, they gave me an empty (clean) pizza box that I framed and put on the wall! I think it looks ace, and is in honour of its inspiration, and Manchester location! This loo even featured in local press, and I threw an opening party for it, with pizza gifted by the pizza restaurant too! It’s given me and my friends a lot of pleasure and laughs this little space! This was a very awkward layout so I knocked down a linen cupboard and a second toilet to create a decent family bathroom. the property also had no shower apart from a hand held shower over a corner bath which took up a lot of space. The renovation allowed for a full shower cubicle and a stand alone large bath. I put in a wall mounted double vanity to give the illusion of space and used glass waterfall taps to add elegance. I also put in a big mirror which lights up, has blue-tooth speaker and demisting function. The bathroom has high gloss on the walls and honed tiles of the same design on the floor to create the feeling of space.

We completely DIY’d our bathroom. We gutted it and found a bargain suite on FBM, it meant compromising my vision but we went with it to save money. A week later after my husband plumbed it in I couldn’t shake the image that had been in my head when we first viewed the house of walking down the hallway and seeing a freestanding bath in view. So, we sold the FBM find and re plumbed (hero husband) and it was the best decision. The view of the bath makes me smile on the daily. It was also my first attempt at tiling so every time I walk on the floor I get a little sense of satisfaction.

Our bathroom is a tiny space- just 1.9m by 1.6m so we had to really consider the layout to create a room which was functional but still a little bit luxurious. Space-saving hacks include a sliding door and a 3/4 length tub. We are so thrilled with the result - would like to think it could be an en-suite in the Grand Budapest Hotel ☺️

With only one bathroom in the house we wanted to create a functional yet stylish space. We added floating sink shelves to bring a modern element, and white sugar effect tiles to create the illusion of more space, the sugar effect bounces the light around to give the feeling of more space as it’s such a small room! We changed the window to a smaller one so we could put the shower unit on the same wall, and built out around the toilet to hide the ugly pipework.

The brief for the bedroom in this East London new build was a 'colourful joyous space'.
Zoe wanted a riot of colour that felt fun, pretty, cosy and enlivened.
We gave it a painterly modern master vibe, our interpretation of opulent and relaxing.
We carefully curated a palette that although colourful would also feel stylish. We interpreted the brief with a hierarchy of elements to make the room feel designed not chaotic. At the top of the hierarchy is the painterly watercolour floral wallpaper. The rest of the walls are kept plain to temper the wallpaper but we chose a barely there warm pink tone to bring the cocooning feels.
Surprising colour placement appears as the flash of yellow in the window return which replaces the missing architectural features of this new build.
Our response to the 'fun' part of the brief was to include a glass balloon ceiling pendent and LED side tables, keeping it playful and classy.
Zoe truly loved it.

"A bedroom should be a safe sanctuary where you're able to relax but also express yourself in the space" Me.
This summaries exactly how I wanted our master bedroom to FEEL. I colour drenched the walls from floor to ceiling, including the skirting, coving, wardrobes and radiator. I used a sumptuous mid -tone green (Lick Green02) which cocooned the space, with the intention of feeling totally immersed in the room for optimum relaxation. To personalised the space, I also wanted to create a feeling of lunxuriousness. For me, luxury in design means BOLD. So, I wallpaperd the ceiling using a bold pattern to compliment and contrast to the green wall colour. This feature abstract floral wallpaper created the perfect balance of opulance for the space. A real wow factor! I styled the bedroom with organic shaped accessories and pattern clashes using abstract prints and floral textiles/soft furnishings.

One of my favourite bedrooms I have done. Awkward ceiling angles called for a bespoke headboard. The burl-effect frame was hand painted and padded upholstered headboard attached. The entire room was colour drenched in setting plaster by Farrow and Ball, to blur the lines between ceiling and wall.

When we moved in in 2021, our bedroom (the loft room) was a large, cold grey room (see image 3 - the before) There’s a shortage of natural light, and the room’s awkward shape makes storage a bit of a puzzle. As a result, spending time in this space feels somewhat oppressive.
The redesign involved strategic zoning by working with the room’s angles to create distinct functional areas. The zones are warmed and defined using carefully chosen colors. Textured rugs are utilized to add coziness without completely covering the wooden floor. A repositioned bed against a different wall is complemented by wall lights and modern bedside tables, enhancing the overall aesthetic. Additionally, a dedicated reading nook is added, and the bay window is maximized for furniture placement. The fireplace is highlighted with accentuating colors, and the two doors we're painted in a matching green. it creates a relaxing and welcoming bedroom that we love to spend time in

The main goal of this room was to create a relaxing atmosphere for the perfect night’s sleep. Calming neutrals avoid overstimulating the mind and accents of black in the mirror frame and drawer handles add some contrast and interest. Floor to ceiling curtains, along with a blackout blind on this East facing window blocks out the early morning sun.

We very recently finished decorating our master bedroom (although the snagging list is as long as my arm!). This room is a very important space as it is our sanctuary, and we wanted it to feel really safe and cocooning. Pink is a colour that stereotypically is ‘not for men’ but is a colour my boyfriend and I love and have never felt able to really embrace and use. As first time home-owners this was our opportunity to fully express ourselves, and let go of the stereotypes that society puts on us about how we should or shouldn’t present our home as males.
It’s been a really healing space, and as you can see - truly joyful. We love the 1970’s, and that influenced the styling and fabrics. Keeping the palette limited to tonal pinks and reds keeps the room restful to the eye, and still relaxing. We love this room so much - and hope you do too! Check it out fully on my page @hattathome

Our bedroom was dirty and dated, it was so bad we actually slept in the dining room for the first three months of living in this house! We wanted to create a cosy, calming space away from the chaos of our renovation. We chose wall neutral colours and panelling to help us create a little sanctuary. We had it built in wardrobes to maximise storage space, new carpet, new windows and little decorative touches to give a simple yet cosy feel

Max wanted the design of his new converted loft bedroom to be all about the view. Set upon a high hill this room overlooks the whole of South East London.
He requested a cosseting bedroom, some clever storage, and the ability to integrate a secret projector and screen.
We designed him a den in the clouds.
Instead of placing the bed side-on to the window as most would do, we orientated the bed looking towards the giant window so that Max could enjoy the landscape and vast skyscape.
We boldly recommended a warm inky grey environment that enhances the view by day, and becomes a cinema room by night. The projector is hidden behind a small opening in the bed wall, and a huge screen is hidden behind the blind pelmet. Hidden doors to the sloping storage part of the loft and the in-room storage wall is clad in rough sawn painted wood to bring texture to the new room, and this is echoed in the architraves and skirting instead of standard mouldings.
Soft lighting is integrated into the ceiling because its quite low, and supported with task lights beside the bed and playful neon lighting.

When we bought this house, the previous owners had already built a kitchen extension. But it was a rectangular box that didn't offer the light I was craving for, or not enough storage space. Both my husband and I love cooking, so having a kitchen that didn't have enough storage and work surfaces was a real problem for us. I had this vision of having friends and family round and us all being in one room while I'm cooking, and that simply wasn't an option in the space we had before. It was also very dark and just didn't feel a very pleasant space to be. So in 2020, after years of hard saving and extensive research we took the decision to demolish the current extension and rebuild a new, bigger one. To accentuate the feeling of space we went higher, so instead of a flat roof we opt for a high double pitched roof and a large expanse of glass, which allows a seamless link to the garden. So now 30 square meters of kitchen space feel more like 60!! Also thanks to four large skylights windows we can now enjoy long hours of daylight even in winter

The house is a period home (1930s) and there was a conservatory on stilts and no connection to the garden. We totally renovated it for three years while living onsite with the kids, demolished the conservatory and self-built a double storey extension which was modern with triple glazing for Scottish weather and making the most of the stunning views while also being inkeeping with the original architecture

This room has evolved over four years. The mural is hand-painted using tester pots and most items apart from the dining table, chaise and shelves were sourced or upcycled on a budget. I originally went with a dark green back wall on a whim and loved it, but it fought with the mural, and the colour drench in F&B Setting Plaster now allows it to stand out while also complementing the room. This is my favourite space in the house.

This space was tired with an old grey sofa from my “grey/beige era.” I have slowly been learning how to inject colour and now how have a home with an autumnal and warm colour palette. This is a space I wanted to turn into another tranquila reading nook which emulated the feeling of reading in nature under a canopy of trees. Which I think I have achieved with this wallpaper from Hovia called Burnham Grey.

Although probably less impressive than some of the entries you'll receive, I wanted to demonstrate an important point that you don't have to have a tonne of money to spend to be able to transform your home into a personal and unique space that makes your heart sing. This boring 60's house was dark, small and boxy with no features, character or charm. Add to that hideous artex ceilings and you've got a pretty uninspiring starting point! I added wall panelling, a faux chimney breast and cast iron fireplace and mantlepiece (both upcycled from facebook marketplace) to the living room. I skimmed the ceilings myself, painted, replaced the skirting boards and styled with pieces that I customised, DIYed and upcycled and you wouldn't believe it was the same space. I DIY'ed the kitchen with microcement worktops and open shelving, Completed IKEA hack built-in shelves and tester pot wall murals to save money without sacrificing style. I shared all the progress on my Instagram account and blog hoping to help and inspire others to have a go.

This cabinet was being given away locally for free. I picked it up and stripped back the old flaking chalk paint.
The paint revealed the most beautiful walnut veneer which was highlighted with a hardwax oil and gold leaf boarder. The body was then painted in a custom mix midnight blue paint to further accentuate the beautiful wood work.

I have recently transformed a very scruffy and dirty outbuilding in our garden into a home office/ play space/ gym with a concealed shed. We did 75% of the work ourselves and all for a 5K budget. I’ve used paint to update old uPVC windows and doors, colour drenched the space in a soft butter yellow for a gorgeous glow all year round. So we didn’t lose storage space, we have a hidden shed section. It’s given us an extra room for working from home and fitting in gym sessions around busy family life. I am so thrilled with the end result!

In the "after," I completely revitalised the room into a serene, stylish living area. I opted for a calming green on the walls to create a soothing backdrop, while the light, neutral-toned furniture introduced a modern, airy feel. Taking this bathroom from blank new build bleurgh to stylish shower room was done using scraps of wood, piecing together bits and pieces I had left from other projects. I hand built the floating vanity unit, even adding additional stud support in the crawlspace behind. I added open gaps for towel storage and deep shelves to create more storage space. I laid the tiles whilst 36 weeks pregnant during a July heatwave, using the shower space to use my wet tile saw. Finishing the space with a new radiator I plumbed in myself, a new rainfall shower, and gold and marble accents, a hand painted artwork and statement light fixture, the space was completely transformed from its boring blank space with no personality or wow factor to a stunning en-suite I was so proud of looking at each day, because I built it all myself!

We finished this project this month and it's such a great transformation. The kitchen/living/diner was a dumping ground for our client and they weren't able to use the space at all. We transformed it into a mid-century modern space, perfect for inviting guests and completely on brand for our client's style. We love the limewash wall finish. Also instead of replacing the kitchen, we got a team to come in and wrap the doors, replaced the handles, worktop and tiles, and it's completely different (on a budget!).

The whole house has been renovated and refurbished over the last year. It had fallen into disrepair after many years of neglect. Luckily lots of original features were intact so we were able to bring lots of rooms back to their former glory albeit with a contemporary twist. This is the kitchen/diner. I’ve used a mix of bespoke and vintage furniture sourced from various places, old and modern art and some high street items which tie it all together. The house has been transformed inside and out. From a run down 1970s gaff to a contemporary family home. The part I am most proud of is the kitchen diner with sliding gable doors which now connects the garden to the house. The exterior makeover reflects my interior choices and I love the burnt cedar cladding. We painted every centimetre of the house inside and out and are proud of our achievements over the last 5 years. Every inch of electrics, plumbing and plaster has been replaced and I have enjoyed designing my own interiors and making the house our forever home.

The kitchen was 40 years old and starting to crumble in places. We moved the boiler from the kitchen to the attic to create the space for the hob and oven, making use of the right side of the kitchen, which was otherwise a lot of dead space being under the staircase. This opened up the kitchen, making it feel larger, which is important when renovating a 2.2m x 3.3m kitchen where every inch is valuable. We maximised storage with drawers instead of cabinets in the base units, a corner storage and shelves, which open up the room.

This was an incredibly derelict property, with huge damp issues, it was rewired, replumbed, replastered, panelled and redesigned with wood burner and exposed brick and drenched in Perfect Pink including the ceilings to create a cosy, luxury living room with pops of colour. It was untouched for decades and let fall into disrepair but then under went a transformation to bring it back to life.

The biggest transformation our house has undergone!
We completely remodelled the bathroom, replacing the bland, white suite with the character the house deserved. I always wanted a pop of glamour so opted for green and gold together, but wanted to keep in with the time frame the house was built.
I can’t believe it’s the same space, the bathroom feels much bigger and does give us more space overall. Completely utilising the area we had to work with, we managed to fit in a full size bath and the gorgeous vanity unity. But of course, the tiles steal the show!
The new pink walls make it a more romantic space especially when there is a candle glow

I think our garden has to be our favourite transformation! We wanted to create a tropical paradise, making use of the sunny and shady areas in the garden. We renovated our old shed into a bar area, added decking to make the most of the morning sun with seating areas and tropical plants. At a later date we added another decking area and built a hot tub surround to create a sunken hot tub, projector area and dining area. We added Tropical plants to a built-in border around the hot tub, painted the fences to give them a new lease of life and added sleeper walls to create a more modern feel. We spent so much time out here I love what we have created!

This dining area is in my rental flat and almost everything in it is upcycled.
When I moved in it was white and beige, but I wanted to create a more organic leafy feel with a bit of a New York loft style edge, a delicious space to eat in. So I set about painting and transforming nearly every surface.
The first key move was to paint the wall in bright green, which set the tone for the rest.
Then I added the turquoise blue to the window frame and glass lampshades (from Ikea), which softens the green.
The dining table was a shiny yellow pine table that my landlord said I could keep, give away or take to the dump, so instead I made it into black marble with black gloss spray paint and a special effect white marble spray paint.
I wrapped the battered silver rental fridge in green vinyl; and upcycled my 20yr old Ikea wardrobes for storage and to hide the bin and microwave, by making ombre zig zag panelling and painting them.
The rug under the table is a synthetic outdoor rug that is water and stain resistent and very easy to clean!

We created a fun and playful dining room as part of an open plan kitchen diner - we used colour blocking to add interest to the alcove corner with picture shelves for vinyl and an ikea hacked cupboard underneath for the record player and more vinyl storage. A gallery wall of fun prints and prints relevant to us such as lyrics from our first and last dance at our wedding. The bar corner worked so well with a gold Ziggy unit popping below a wrap around colour block defining the bar shelving area. It’s a great space to entertain - the table is 2.5m long so can fit plenty of people for dinner or special events, but can create more cosy dining styling for dinner for 2.

Our diner is in our south facing open plan extension on the back of the property. It was plain white and grey when we moved in (photo 2) , and lacked warmth and any personality. Over the last few years We've added a built in bench (made from ply and Ikea boxes) vintage pull down lighting, vintage cafe chairs from Mexico and Michael English pop art posters. It's separated form the kitchen by a vintage plan chest (on casters so it can be moved) that's topped with a beautiful piece of terrazzo form surface design Katie Gilles. next to the diner is the new pink ply cabinet, which is amazing for storage and the ribbed glass cupboard holds my vintage treasures.

The heart of the home. This orangery space adjoined to the kitchen has seen a lot of laughter and celebrations over the last 10 years living here. It has also been decorated with many different looks over the seasons, including an ever changing
seasonal branch. As this side of the house is north facing, the glass brings in much needed light at the same time as framing the garden beautifully. There have been a few new additions in the last year with an adjoining kitchen extension, the most recent being a herringbone wooden floor, which has warmed the whole space up massively. I am also very pleased with our recent supporting pillar glow up, it now all flows so well with the period features in the rest of the house.

This was the most difficult room to decorate. It’s west facing with a large hill immediately adjacent and so it has never got a lot of natural light. My challenge was to make it feel light, bright and airy whilst making it a useable dining space with plenty of storage as well as being a dual purpose room for my office space. I chose paint colours with a yellow base to help bounce light around the room and the large mirror also reflects any light.

I designed and built this desk from scratch using a unique puzzle pattern of slatted wood. I carefully cut each piece and arranged them in a custom puzzle formation, securing them onto an 18mm hardboard base. After gluing the pieces down, I added edging and sealed the edges to make it watertight. The final touch was encasing the entire design in a glossy resin finish. For the desk base, I upcycled two bedside cabinets I got for free on Facebook Marketplace, giving them a fresh new look. The result is a functional and stylish desk that’s one-of-a-kind. I love working on it.

I'm really proud of my DIY kitchen project. I microcemented over the existing worktops and backsplash to create a modern, textured concrete finish and added a huge fluted mdf sheet to the side of the peninsula to give the unique fluted texture. I built a DIY breakfast bar and microcemented it to look like a continuous, flowing part of the worktops. This made much better use of the space and added a focal point to a previously uninspiring area. I removed the wall units and built a thin ledge shelf by upcycling picture shelves and microcemented them too. This opened the space up, allowing light to bounce around and provided opportunities for styling and storage. I built a DIY built-in fridge surround for our freestanding fridge freezer, this added storage and also made the area feel considered and connected to the rest of the kitchen. I created some open shelving for a stylish tea and coffee station, this was another IKEA hack and microcement project which I softened by adding a DIY skirted curtain under the worktop to finish the space. I saved thousands and created a space that makes my heart sing every day and is super functional too

I’m excited to present my wavy serving board DIY. Starting with a basic Ikea chopping board, I turned it into something truly unique and stylish. I hand-drew a wavy design directly onto the board, then carefully cut out the shape using a jigsaw. After sanding it smooth, I added a distinctive striped pattern using masking tape and finished it with Frenchic’s Browning Wax. The result is a one-of-a-kind serving board that’s not only functional but also a beautiful piece of decor, combining creativity with practicality.

I think my best DIY creation is my tiled headboard. I made a frame using batons and MDF and then used Moroccan zellige tiles to create a headboard. I love how the tiles add a completely new texture to the room and how the variation in colour adds dimension. Also, using tiles in the bedroom is quite controversial and I always think it’s good to take risks in interiors.

Taking this bathroom from blank new build bleurgh to stylish shower room was done using scraps of wood, piecing together bits and pieces I had left from other projects. I hand built the floating vanity unit, even adding additional stud support in the crawlspace behind. I added open gaps for towel storage and deep shelves to create more storage space. I laid the tiles whilst 36 weeks pregnant during a July heatwave, using the shower space to use my wet tile saw. Finishing the space with a new radiator I plumbed in myself, a new rainfall shower, and gold and marble accents, a hand painted artwork and statement light fixture, the space was completely transformed from its boring blank space with no personality or wow factor to a stunning en-suite I was so proud of looking at each day, because I built it all myself!

I wanted a kitchen island but didn’t want to spend a fortune. So I built an Island/peninsula by buying a £30 kallax unit. I attached under cupboard adjustable legs and built a frame under one side to attach mdf to. I used 9mm mdf around the kallax unit to support the build but also to block in one side of the build. I then added more mdf to create a shaker style finish. Undercoated and then painted with eggshell paint. I used 25 mm thick mdf as a worktop and this was then wrapped with a white marble effect vinyl. I used some ikea baskets to create more storage inside the kallax unit. The build cost me under £250 and this is used everyday and feels like a much more sociable space. Lots of people have copied this idea and others have sent me their diy kallax units and some are saved to my Kitchen Kallax highlight.

I built these arched bookcases by myself - it was my biggest build. I used the Ikea Ivar cabinet as the base carcass and from that, built vertical and internal panels / arched frontages and added moulding and coving.
It has anchored the living room and created a place for my books and collectibles aswell as great practical storage.
I filled, caulked and painted it in Inchrya Blue eggshell. It is one of my most popular Instagram projects and one I am very proud of. I created tutorials for this and have enjoyed seeing others recreate this in their own home.

This IKEA hack built-in was the biggest DIY project I’ve done so far. I sketched out a few different design options and decided that I wanted drawers instead of cabinets so that we could access items more easily compared to cabinets. Nearly every room in the house has something green a I went for a pale mint green to tie in with the other rooms but also the garden, which can be seen through the large sliding doors. This wall had a lot of dead space and now we use every inch for storage and it looks beautiful too.

There is nothing more satisfying than creating something. This can be from materials or up-cycling something you already have.
For this DIY we had an old bathroom cabinet which had a material front and was looking quite sad. It was in need of a glow up! I will let you guess which was the before picture ??
Enter the jigsaw…my first time using! I made a wavy door out of a sheet of mdf & then attached with brackets. I made the wave shape using a glass & a pencil. I painted a brighter colour on the inside but the outside in a soft cream colour to compliment the tiles in the bathroom. I finished with a roll of rattan which I attached with drawing pins which were easy to push in to the mdf. The handle in gold finishes the look off.
I was really happy with this DIY & now I am thinking of how I can create other upcycles using the jigsaw.

I absolutely loved Studio McGee's chest of drawers, but the price was steep. So, I created a budget-friendly version with an IKEA hack. Using Beyond Paint from @carlowpainthub, some dado border, and a bit of glue, I transformed a simple piece into something that looks high-end without the hefty price tag.

After having had a media unit before, we knew we wanted to utilise the whole wall and make each nook count!
Our media wall was created with a home snug cinema room in mind. Housing all the prettiest decor details, books, cosy furnishings and a tv/media. The unit was created by myself, with the bespoke planning of the shape and sizes of the shelves. We couldn’t have bought better!

We wanted to add a bit of a modern twist to our garden, and decided to build a decking surround to our hot tub. We used offcuts of wood and built the whole thing from scratch by ourselves with little to no experience. We really wanted to create a versatile space, somewhere for relaxing and dining and love what we created! This project took around four months working in the evenings and on weekends. We pulled inspiration from TV programmes we had watched, garden magazines and Instagram. We felt a tropical border surrounding the hot tub and chose plants to suit the shady space which intern helps create an interesting space. It’s somewhere where we spend a lot of our time especially in the summer or when it’s cold and frosty in the winter!

We have a large garden and our dream was to combine traditional, formal landscaping with contemporary usable spaces without compromising the style of our home.
The overall project has taken about 18months (on and off), working section by section, we have protected 90% of the established planting and trees and consciously modernised areas that were grass based working with the established garden as our backdrop for the project.
I have absolutely no professional landscaping or design experience just a lot of passion so decided to take a leap of faith and project manage myself: from design to sourcing materials, appointing trades for build work through to styling. The project completed in June this year.
I have shared all the progress along the way including money saving tips, materials used and research e.g. best base for an outdoor kitchen and why.
Hopefully the selection of photos attached shows the blend of modern and formal garden space but it's not possible to capture the whole garden in 1 photo. This back garden was disconnected and didn't allow enough space for the client's outdoor living requirements.
By moving the retaining wall back & opening up the lower garden area, they can now use the indoor/outdoor space as one as well as having a well designed layout to include their furniture for relaxation & outdoor dining.
The garden is also lit so they can enjoy looking at it throughout the year & at night time adding additional interest from the living room, creating a lovely view out. Before photo included also.

Our Hertfordshire garden descends into a valley so is on multiple levels. We’ve tried to harness it by zoning the levels to have function & purpose including a decked area outside our bifolding doors, stairs lead to a BBQ & dining table, steps then lead down to a small plunge pool, further stairs lead to a large lawn with a summer house and next to the steps are some terraces which are connected by children’s slides to negate the need for our children to use the stairs.

I’ve had so much fun designing our garden over the years.
I was very mindful that I wanted it to be a sociable, usable, happy space which was essentially a total continuation from the inside living space & most importantly, which we could use & enjoy all year round.
The verandah & outdoor kitchen are both covered by a totally waterproof roof, which means we don’t have to worry about the furniture being left outside all year round.
The outdoor bath is a new addition. We enjoy cold water dipping but also there’s nothing better than a soak in a warm bath out here at the end of a hard day's gardening taking in the views.
The garden isn’t just a showpiece. We have two greenhouses & raised beds for veg & cut flowers too. There’s also a 5-a-side football pitch at the bottom of the garden.

Our garden was in dire need of a makeover. Inspired by our travels to Australia and New Zealand we knew we wanted to incorporate a tropical feel whilst making the most of the sunny & shady areas in our garden. We created a decking area at the top of the garden by the shed for the morning sun, with a dining area for breakfast in the sunshine, the lower decking is a more shady area and so we wanted to create more of a zone here. We added a hot tub surround to add some interest, a projector screen for movies in the hot tub, plus dining areas making the most of the evening sun. This whole transformation cost under £3000 and we are so proud of what we’ve achieved!

This was such a small and awkward space to design. With two electric fuses on both walls under the stairs I needed to come up with a solution how to hide them and make the best use of the space. We also needed somwhere to keep our shoes so easy access to both, shoes and fuses was important. I needed this space to have a nice welcoming feel to compensate for the size and the lack of natural light. And I wanted to use colours that I love. The l shape storage houses all.of our shoes and gives easy access to the electrics too. The addition of a curtain adds to a cottagey feel plus the stripy fabric is a perfect match to the carpet on the stairs. Although small in size, this space is now pretty and practical.

This hallway was a dull, white, scruffy, unloved space that sat in the centre, in the heart, of my rental flat. But as a rental, everything I did to it had to be non permanent in case my landlord wanted me to put it back to neutral when I left.
As it is in an old Victorian building, I couldn't wallpaper the walls, so I hand painted the mural up the stairs.
The stairs are completely wooden and I wasn't allowed to paint any of the stripped wood, so I created the blue stair treads by painting wood textured self-adhesive wallpaper, cutting it to size and sticking it on.
I painted the door frames and the left hand wall in the hallway a pale pink to bring some warmth and joy down the corridor, but the white on the right hand side keeps it fresh and light.
The neutral grey runner adds texture and comfort and grounds the brighter colours.
The end result meant that the moment we stepped into our flat from the grey London streets outside our hearts were lifted and we smiled.

We don’t have a huge home with a huge open hallway when you enter, but I have tried extremely hard to create a bright, inviting entry hall in our home. By using bold, patterned tiles, light airy tones with complementary furniture - plus painting the wood and skirtings in a complementary colour scheme - the space is warm, cosy and welcoming. All styled to a modern country theme - adding a touch of elegance when you enter our home. A bold mirror has been added to open up the space, with a statement piece of art that stands out and draws the eye. We’ve turned an unused space into an eye catching area that is both functional and inviting.

We decided to create something a little different for our hallway. It’s such a narrow space and it just felt cold so we really wanted to warm this space up and make it feel more inviting. We used gimcyn luxury paint by impera Italia in the shade pearl white to create some texture and interest, plus acoustic walnut wood panels to add some depth. There is no natural light coming in from our hallway so we wanted to be able to make it feel warm and inviting by the colours used and I think we have managed that!

I love receiving positive feedback from readers who have been encouraged to try a new DIY skill or upcycle a piece of furniture after reading one of my tutorials. I realised that if I worked hard enough, I could turn this hobby into my dream job! Now, I have over 200 blog posts covering DIY, interior styling, upcycling, florals & foraging, home repairs & maintenance and over 100,000 page views each month and growing fast. It's just me behind the scenes, with no IT department, no web or graphic designer, so I've had to teach myself EVERYTHING from SEO to web design and photo editing & I've loved every second. I have big plans for this little interiors blog and am bursting with excitement to see how far I can take it!

My interiors blog @manorhouse_makeover started as a diary of our renovation and hasn't really changed even though my lovely audience has grown. Renovations can be hard work but the home community is full of likeminded pocket pals with the same interest so we go through this journey together. There is zero gatekeeping on my account, no automated replies, even when reels reach into the millions I will reply to every DM, comment or question myself. That's really important to me.
By nature I am someone who always does a lot of research so when I share online, I share as much info as possible or leave a comment word where people can access the extra detail if they want it.
My content covers everything on our current journey, from DIY Christmas decorations to homemade cooking oils, room/garden transformations, mood boards and 'how to's' through to our travels.
I am hugely passionate about creating content that is as inclusive and accessible for all budgets as possible so often share 'savvy, splurge, save' options, tips for up-cycling and 'how to' interior tips and ideas along side the overall investment into our home.
I also write ad-hoc interiors articles for Essex Life Magazine.

Five years ago, I bought my first home, starting with zero DIY experience. Just before purchasing my first house, I sadly lost my dad—a man who never hired a tradesman for a job he could do himself. Inspired by his resourcefulness and armed with his tools, I faced my blank canvas of white walls and decided to dive in.
My mission is to inspire others to create homes they love, one DIY project at a time. I am passionate about showing that transforming your space doesn’t have to be expensive or intimidating. The messages that mean the most to me are from those who, lacking confidence before discovering my page, have now taken their first steps in DIY. My biggest advice: just start. You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.

Welcome to a house where drama is welcomed! I’ve always gravitated towards bold interiors and decided to create this within my home. Many people are scared to use dark colors in design, I’m here to show that not only are dark/moody colors warm and welcoming, they are also luxurious!

Things have massively changed with the platform nowadays and it’s not what it used to be but I still love being part of the interiors community, showing my home to my audience. I started my Instagram account in 2020 to document the renovation of my home. What began as a hobby became my full-time occupation and obsession! I now live and breathe interiors and use my account as a platform to inspire, educate and energise others. Anxiety has always been a demon in my life and I use my account to demonstrate how interiors can bring joy and serenity through colour, texture and pattern. I put a lot of time and thought into my posts, providing people with advice and ideas to equip them with the knowledge and confidence to transform their own homes. A lot of my tips are delivered via reels so I have included examples of a caption, post insights, overall look and feel of my account as well as two photos.

Because I might as well try whilst I’m here. I have a long way to go, but I try very hard to be authentic in the way I approach Instagram and social media. My Instagram started as a secret, faceless account to share my home reno updates back in 2019. As I developed creatively, I became braver and more experimental with the tools and materials for DIY & styling projects and these bold and unique ideas helped me carve
out a niche with my 'bespoke on a budget' approach. There weren’t many other interior stylists and content creators using microcement and postal tubes for their makeover projects! I still find it crazy that people tune in to see what I’m up to! I’m not your typical home account as we don’t have a grand home or lavish lifestyle. Still, all the time there’s an interest in my money-saving hacks and hands-on approach, I’ll keep sharing what me & Mr D (he often makes an appearance!) are up to as I think it's really important to normalise modest-sized homes and budgets because we all know what social media can be like sometimes and comparison is the thief of joy. Far better, I believe, to focus on creative ways to build a connection with your home and create interesting and personal spaces that spark joy and work perfectly for your lifestyle.

I have spent 4 years renovating my home to a luxury standard on a budget. Mixed high end with low end for maximum impact. Have built a fabulous community of enthusiastic homeowners and love sharing advice, tips and tricks with them. Obsessed with everything interiors. Our home renovation was not for the feint hearted so really proud of what we have achieved.

My instagram @manorhouse_makeover, is built on my passion for creating luxury home interiors for less. My style is modern classic with a high end feel. Showcasing how this look can be achieved cost effectively through DIYs, dupes and clever mix and match styling. I share 'splurge, savvy, save' price point options to include all budgets within my stories in the hope of inspiring others that this style is achievable for anyone who loves it.
Example - photo 1 attached (the lounge - WIP), wall art with photo frames from Ikea using textured wallpapers mounted inside, all cushions are from the high-street (H&M), throw from QVC, console (not in shot) from Restoration Hardware's outlet shop (60% discount), styled with other accessories from Dunelm, Amazon, TKMaxx mixed with luxury items such as the Baobab candles (sale), the carpet and sofa.
DIYs from up-cycling items to make them look more bespoke to re-covering lampshades in designer fabric by the meter instead of buying a designer lamp though to tips on how you can make high-street cushion covers look more expensive to wall panelling specifically for the modern classic vibe, makes running my account a joy when others try it too.
