Getting the best out of this vital room in the home

Installing this downstairs loo in an unused part of the understairs was the first major project we’ve ever done - and was inspired heavily by the toilets of our favourite Manchester pizza restaurant. The aim of this space was to surprise people when they opened the unassuming hallway door, and to make it a really joyful and playful space. We really wanted it to be a wow moment for this that use it - and I think we achieved that!
In an ode to the pizza restaurant it’s inspired by, they gave me an empty (clean) pizza box that I framed and put on the wall! I think it looks ace, and is in honour of its inspiration, and Manchester location! This loo even featured in local press, and I threw an opening party for it, with pizza gifted by the pizza restaurant too! It’s given me and my friends a lot of pleasure and laughs this little space! Where opulence meets relaxation
We very recently finished decorating our master bedroom (although the snagging list is as long as my arm!). This room is a very important space as it is our sanctuary, and we wanted it to feel really safe and cocooning. Pink is a colour that stereotypically is ‘not for men’ but is a colour my boyfriend and I love and have never felt able to really embrace and use. As first time home-owners this was our opportunity to fully express ourselves, and let go of the stereotypes that society puts on us about how we should or shouldn’t present our home as males.
It’s been a really healing space, and as you can see - truly joyful. We love the 1970’s, and that influenced the styling and fabrics. Keeping the palette limited to tonal pinks and reds keeps the room restful to the eye, and still relaxing. We love this room so much - and hope you do too! Check it out fully on my page @hattathome

An inviting place to entertain

The heart of the home. This orangery space adjoined to the kitchen has seen a lot of laughter and celebrations over the last 10 years living here. It has also been decorated with many different looks over the seasons, including an ever changing
seasonal branch. As this side of the house is north facing, the glass brings in much needed light at the same time as framing the garden beautifully. There have been a few new additions in the last year with an adjoining kitchen extension, the most recent being a herringbone wooden floor, which has warmed the whole space up massively. I am also very pleased with our recent supporting pillar glow up, it now all flows so well with the period features in the rest of the house.

Showcasing “the look”
I love to inspire with a timeless classic look that lasts the duration of time and isn't just trend focused. It’s all about making the most of what you have and presenting it elegantly. My style is a mix of old and new, bringing back period features into spaces they have been removed from is my passion. We have put at least four period fireplaces back into our home over the years. I also love the magic a lick of paint, panelling, a good upcycle can create alongside the simple addition of key accessories, much can be achieved.
I started my interiors account in 2021 sharing my rental homes in Dubai, then Manchester and became a homeowner a year ago, and am loving sharing my home renovations room by room. I am obsessed with creating joyful spaces, and sharing all the silliness along the way that goes into creating them. I am very honest with the ups and downs of renovations and figuring it out as I go.
As well as this I react to series of interior design masters, show cribs tours of hotels and homes I visit, and recently have been sharing updates on a block of flats being built right behind my house. This account has been a real joy in my life - thank you to everyone who supports and sees my content! Go see my page @hattathome to see all the silliness for yourself!

Making bedtime fun for the kids
I had a lot of fun making over this small room for our youngest daughter Lillian. It was a pretty dark grey canvas to start off with. So I went about adding depth and interest using panelling, wallpaper cornicing/ceiling rose and even putting an old original fireplace that I found on eBay. The hardest part was finding the right shade of white, they always appear very unexpectedly cold in a north facing room, but we got there in the end, with a lovely warm tone that worked seamlessly with the chosen rainbow wallpaper. Adding pops of soft baby pink also warmed it all up. I also really enjoyed upcycling the old plain bedside table and chair. It's now a welcoming, functional calm space that she loves!
